Fall Classic Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extended matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a total 51M spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this is the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a 16% increase compared to the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game finished in 13th place.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series averaged 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total US viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09M viewers, an eight percent rise over last year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance since 2017.

MLB stated that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 different tongues.
